WEBINAR – The development of long-term low-emission development strategies

Thursday, September 3, 2020 at 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM CEST

August 26, 2020

We call on parties to the Paris Agreement to formulate and communicate long-term low emission development strategies (LT-LEDS) with their national pathways for greenhouse gas emission until 2050 and beyond.

These strategies are fundamental tools available for countries to envision the alignment of low-emission development with broader sustainability, socio-economic and climate change adaptation goals.

With this webinar UNEP DTU Partnership along with the CBIT Global Coordination Platform and its partners introduce two talks to share recommendations and experiences on the LT-LEDS.

The first talk will provide a brief overview of what is meant by LT-LEDS, what elements they should include, and detailed look into why and how LT-LEDS should be aligned with short and mid-term climate goals. The second talk will go in to depth with the experience of Chile in developing their climate change strategy.

Agenda

  • Overview of and recommendations for long-term low-emission development strategies, Chiara Falduto (OECD)
  • Designing the climate change strategy for Chile, Carolina Urmeneta (Climate Change Office of the Ministry of Environment of Chile)
