UNEP-CCC hosts students from DIS Study Abroad

Students were introduced to science-based advisory and the role of the UNEP in helping countries to implement the Paris Agreement and achieve SDG7

Staff from UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre (UNEP-CCC) welcomed a group of around 20 students from the Danish Study Abroad in Scandinavia program (DIS) and introduced them to the Centre’s work in providing science-based advisory services to partners in developing countries and emerging economies. The students were mostly final year undergraduates from the USA, who are studying in Copenhagen.

The 1.5 hour session offered some case-specific insights into UNEP-CCC work in overseeing the assessment of technology needs and in calculating and communicating the climate change ‘Emissions Gap’. In doing the aim was to shed light on a few basic questions: what is the role of the UN, and specifically UNEP, in helping developing countries to implement the Paris Agreement and achieve SDG7?

Further, students and staff discussed the role of research and evidence to help inform and/or steer global environmental agendas and the design of project interventions, with partner countries and organisations. The students asked some good questions and the session ended with a brief tour of the UN City building.
