NDC Action

Facilitating the implementation of climate-resilient and low-carbon development aligned with national and global goals

The NDC Action Project supports 10 partner countries to translate their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) into concrete sector strategies and actions ready for financing and implementation, and to increase the ambition of their NDCs.

At present, many countries are not yet able to fully exploit the transformative potential of their NDCs, as they still face significant obstacles. UNEP and UNEP DTU Partnership jointly offer to address them with help of the recently launched NDC Action project.

The NDC Action project builds up on three core principles: country ownership; balanced focus on adaptation and mitigation; integration of national development and climate change priorities.

This project fosters accelerated public and private investment in the implementation of NDCs and optimises the effectiveness of national policies, which actively contributes to low-carbon and climate-resilient development. Through tailored technical assistance based on the countries’ needs, the project makes NDC implementation more efficient and facilitates the sharing of lessons learnt between sectors, countries, and regions. The private sector and local financial institutions will be actively engaged in developing investment plans in two priority sectors selected by the countries.

By sharing best practices among peers from partner countries and beyond, national experiences and lessons learnt will contribute to raising global climate ambition. To this end, a series of tools and guidelines will be developed, and the sharing of experiences with other countries and organizations will be facilitated. Needs-based training programmes for capacity development will be delivered for governments, national financial institutions, and private project developers.

The project engages key NDC decision-makers and stakeholders: national and sub-national government entities, the private sector, financial institutions, civil society, etc. The Joint UN approach to support NDC implementation as well as a close coordination with the NDC Partnership and other support initiatives ensure the optimal use of available resources.

The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety.
