Natasha Kuruppu

Senior Researcher

Natasha Kuruppu is a climate change adaptation specialist with a focus on Small Island Developing States in the Pacific.

Her current research work focuses on climate adaptation in the private sector, particularly understanding the process of building the climate resilience of small businesses to climate in the Asian region.  She is also involved in the Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) under the UNFCCC and coordinates the work across the Pacific Islands.

Her other research interests relate to exploring health adaptation, governance and institutional strengthening for climate adaptation and establishing monitoring and evaluation frameworks for adaptation as part of the CBIT work under the UNFCCC.

Natasha has worked extensively in the Asia-Pacific region leading research and capacity building efforts.  Previously, she was based at the United Nations University -Institute for Global Health where she focused on planetary health issues and Indigenous Knowledge systems for climate adaptation. She also worked at the University of Technology Sydney where she led national climate adaptation research projects related to private sector, local governance issues and disaster risk reduction in Australia and Pacific Islands.

She has a DPhil in climate adaptation completed at the Environmental Change Institute at the University of Oxford and a Masters in Environmental Engineering from the University of Technology, Sydney, Australia.
