Research Assistant for UNEP DTU Partnership

The Institutional Development Section of the UNEP DTU Partnership is looking for a dedicated research assistant to support our work on institutional development and projects we are implementing.

UNEP DTU Partnership

The UNEP DTU Partnership (UDP) is a leading international research and advisory institution on energy, climate change and sustainable development. As a collaborating centre of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), UDP works with a wide range of international entities, governments, and research institutions, to assist countries on their pathways towards sustainable development and climate goals. UDP has a staff of approximately 80 professionals from 26 different countries with backgrounds ranging from economics, to science, engineering, and energy planning. UDP currently implements project activities in more than 60 developing countries.

Institutional Development Section

The ID section is one of the five sections at UDP, which contributes to changing processes that improve the capacity of institutions working to achieve climate and sustainable development goals by undertaking activities ranging from capacity building, technical assistance, knowledge dissemination, and institutional analysis and strengthening focusing on climate governance.  The ID Section is expanding its portfolio of projects and is inviting a highly motivated and talented research assistant with relevant backgrounds.

The work will be carried out in collaboration with project management and the team of senior researchers/advisors involved in NDC projects and the transparency as well as a general support to Institutional Development Section. Specific tasks will include:

  • Project management support incl. administrative, budget, and reporting processes
  • Logistic support and planning of workshops, conferences, webinars, etc.
  • Supporting stakeholder engagement and relevant development processes
  • Coordination of reports
  • Quantitative data processing
  • Maintaining project websites
  • General research support drawing from theoretical frameworks on institutional development, sustainable transition theory, and climate governance
  • other tasks required by the section head

In addition, other day-to-day activities may include:

  • Contribution to other ongoing projects with reporting and administration as needed
  • Assisting with the preparation of new proposals and fundraising
  • Preparing reports and communications material

Qualifications

  • MA/MSc degree or equivalent in social sciences, environmental sciences, or other discipline related to institutional development with interests in climate change, energy, or sustainable development.
  • Experience with UN system and institutional development issue
  • Familiarity and relevant work experience related to prioritisation and implementation of NDC (nationally determined contribution) and capacity building for climate change in a developing country context.
  • Experience with project management (incl. reporting, budget, and consultation processes) and ability to comply with tightly managed internal processes is a pre-requisite.
  • Experience in planning and organising workshops and conferences on climate change or energy with an international audience is an asset.
  • Experience in developing proposals for funding agencies (such as H2020, EuropeAid, World Bank, GCF, GEF, International Development Banks, development agencies, charities) in the area of climate change and partnerships with developing countries would be an asset.
  • Experience with work and travel in developing countries, and availability to travel is an advantage.
  • Experience in climate change mitigation
  • Work experience of at least 1 year is preferred.
  • Experience/knowledge of transparency would be an asset.

Language

The working language at UDP is English so working and spoken fluency is needed. In addition, proficiency in other languages, especially French or Spanish would be an asset.

Terms of employment

UDP is part of the Department of Technology, Management, & Economics at the Technical University of Denmark and employees are university staff. The successful candidate will be employed in a full-time position according to the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The Research Assistant contract is offered for a two-year term.

The place of work is the UN City based in Copenhagen, Denmark.
