Call for Consultant(s) – support for transparency capacity building in the energy sector in Kenya

The UNEP DTU Partnership (UDP) is seeking to hire (a) National Consultant(s) to support Ministry of Energy in Kenya for the development of an MRV system and providing capacity building in the energy sector contributing to the development of a national transparency framework for GHG emission reductions and sustainable development.

Nature of assignment

The Consultant will work close with Ministry of Energy, Kenya and UDP to deliver the following outputs:

  1. Report on institutional setting summary in implementing MRV system in energy sector (Mid-June)
  2. Guidance on GHG data collection protocol and processing tool(s) in energy sector (End of June)
  3. Training workshop on GHG data collection protocol and processing tool(s) (End of June)
  4. Report on progress on achievement of NDC and progress on adaptation actions in energy sector (End of July)
  5. Procedure manual on GHG data QC/QA in the energy sector (End of August)
  6. Final report (Mid-September)

Duration of the assignment

Activities will start as soon as possible and finalize no later than end of September 2021.

Budget available: USD 50,000

Qualifications of consultant:

Education: Advanced university degree (minimum of Master degree or equivalent) in Energy Planning and management, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Climate Change or related fields.

Work experience: Minimum of seven years of relevant work experience in the climate change and energy domains. Extensive experience with GHG inventories, GHG data processing, NDCs, national communications, biennial update reports and impact assessment and MRV of mitigation and adaptation actions is desirable. Experience in capacity building in developing countries and delivering training sessions is desirable.

Candidates with prior experience from working in Kenya will be given preference. Consultant(s) can be hired representing a team of experts in a company and/or in their individual capacity.

Languages

Fluency in written and oral English is a requirement. Proficiency in local languages is desirable.
