Webinar on clean captive solar PV installations for commercial and industrial (C&I) market in Kenya

20 May, 2020 - 20 May, 2020
Online,

Join our UNEP-DTU webinar on clean captive PV market in Kenya.
May 20, 2-3:15 PM CEST.

The webinar is based on a report titled Clean captive power: Understanding the uptake and growth of commercial and industrial (C&I) solar PV in Kenya, published by UNEP DTU Partnership.

Read the report here.

Kenya has witnessed a rapid increase in the captive solar PV segment over a short timeframe, mainly since 2014. The total capacity for captive PV installations currently in Kenya is 40 MW (including completed projects and those under-construction as of 2019). The report shares detailed insights on how this growth has been enabled, who are the main consumers, what have been the main drivers, how have the solar PV firms leveraged on this market, and what are the constraints.

The webinar will discuss all of these and additional insights on the C&I market in Kenya by providing an:

  • Outlook on captive PV C&I market developments and trends in Kenya 2010-2020
  • Break-down of key actors and driving factors of this growth, along with constraints
  • Insight into the financing tools, mechanisms and constraints for the C&I market
  • Viewpoint of solar SMEs in competing and operating in the C&I market
  • Insight into the policy and regulatory aspects around the captive PV market
  • Opportunity to discuss implications of findings in other (East African) countries

SPEAKERS

  • Padmasai Lakshmi Bhamidipati, Research Fellow (Postdoc), UNEP DTU Partnership, will highlight key findings from the captive solar report
  • Hind Il-Idrissi, Associate Program Officer, UNEP-Nairobi, will share insights on the financial instruments and mechanisms of the captive PV C&I market
  • Nickson Bukachi, Senior Renewable Energy Specialist, The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), will share insights on the policy and regulatory aspects of the captive PV market
  • Sylvester Makaka, Senior Energy Advisor, Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), will share insights on the demand-side uptake of captive PV by the industrial sector
  • Geoffrey Ronoh, Co-founder and Director, OFGEN, will share private sector experiences in servicing C&I consumers
