In this publication, seasoned experts present 10 articles on Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) and energy efficiency and its mainstreaming in Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement.
An untapped potential
Energy efficiency is central to efforts to make the transition to clean energy and limit the average global temperature increase. It is a cost-effective means of reducing 40% of the carbon emissions required to meet the objectives of the Paris Agreement.
Not only that, energy efficiency offers profitable investment options while preventing the waste of energy, the production of which is by far the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions. Yet the vast potential of energy efficiency investments remains largely untapped.
ESCOs are the companies that can make energy efficiency investments happen on a large scale. They make the potentials tangible. But, the road to get there, to allow the ESCOs to contribute decisively to the emissions reduction effort, is littered with obstacles, many unintended.
This new edition of the UNEP DTU Partnership Perspective series shows the way to ensure a thriving energy efficiency business with expert advice and insights from four regions around the globe.
The UNEP DTU Partnership ‘Perspectives’ Series share expert and practitioners’ opinions and experiences on emerging topics related to climate change. This edition is supported by the partnership’s Copenhagen Centre on Energy Efficiency, which also houses the Global ESCO Network.
